General Questions
Will you try to sell me stuff I don’t need?
No, that's the whole point of how Nick works. He tells you what actually needs fixing now, what can wait, and what's fine the way it is. You get the price in writing before anything happens. If we ever flag something extra, it's a real safety issue, and we'll show you why.
How do I know the price won’t change once you’re in there?
Because you approve it first. Nick diagnoses the problem, hands you an exact written estimate, and doesn't start until you say go. No surprise line items when you come to pick up the car.
Is my car safe to drive, or should I bring it in right now?
Call or text and tell us what it's doing, we'll tell you straight. Grinding brakes, a soft pedal, overheating, or a flashing check-engine light mean bring it in now. Plenty of other stuff can wait a few days. We won't scare you into a same-day visit you don't need.
Do I need an appointment?
It helps, but just call, Nick can often get you in the same day, especially for brakes, a dead AC, or a check-engine light. For a basic oil change, most days you can swing by.
Another shop quoted me a lot. Can you take a look?
Yes, bring it in. We've told plenty of people their car needed less than they were quoted (and once in a while, more). Either way you get a straight answer and a number in writing, no pressure.
What kind of cars do you work on?
Most cars, SUVs, and light trucks, all the major makes. We see a lot of Toyota and Honda, but Nick works on just about everything. Got something unusual? Give us a call and ask.
Where are you, and what are your hours?
We're at 8373 Cleveland Ave NW in North Canton, easy to reach off Cleveland Ave and Route 8. Open Monday through Saturday, 9 to 5, closed Sundays. Call or text us at (330) 818-7120.
How do I pay?
Cash, all major credit and debit cards, and digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay. You pay once the work's done, not before.
Do you do towing?
No, we're a repair shop, not a tow company. If your car can't make it to us safely, tell us and we'll point you to a local tow company we trust.
Brake Repair
Why are my brakes squealing?
Brake squealing usually indicates worn brake pads, glazed rotors, or lack of lubrication on brake components. Worn brake pads typically need replacement every 30,000 to 70,000 miles, but this varies based on driving habits, vehicle type, and brake pad quality. We recommend having your brakes inspected as soon as you hear squealing to prevent more costly damage.
How much does brake repair cost?
It depends on what your car actually needs, from a straightforward pad replacement to rotors or calipers. We don't quote prices sight-unseen. You get an exact written estimate before any work begins, so you know the cost up front and there's no upsell.
How long does brake repair take?
A standard brake pad replacement typically takes 1-2 hours per axle. More extensive repairs may take longer. We'll provide you with a time estimate before beginning work.
What are signs my brakes need immediate attention?
If you hear grinding noises, experience a soft brake pedal, notice your vehicle pulling to one side when braking, see the brake warning light, feel vibration in the brake pedal, or notice increased stopping distance, have your brakes inspected immediately.
Do you offer warranty on brake repairs?
Yes, we stand behind our work. All of our brake repairs come with a comprehensive parts and labor warranty. Ask your service advisor for specific details.
Suspension & Steering
How often should I get a wheel alignment?
We recommend having your alignment checked annually or after hitting large potholes, curbs, or after any suspension work. Most manufacturers suggest alignment every 15,000-30,000 miles.
What's the difference between shocks and struts?
While both help dampen and control your vehicle's movement, struts are a structural component of the suspension system and support the vehicle's weight, while shocks only dampen the movement of the springs and suspension.
How do I know if my ball joints are bad?
Common symptoms include clunking noises when driving over bumps, excessive tire wear on the inside or outside edges, and vehicle wandering or pulling during braking or acceleration.
What causes uneven tire wear?
Uneven tire wear is often caused by improper wheel alignment, worn suspension components, incorrect tire pressure, or a need for tire rotation. Our technicians can diagnose the exact cause.
Alternators & Starters
Is it my battery, alternator, or starter?
That's exactly what we test for. A dead battery, a failing alternator, and a bad starter can feel similar, so Nick tests all three and tells you which one it actually is, no replacing parts you don't need.
How much does an alternator or starter cost?
It depends on your vehicle and which part is actually bad, the battery, the alternator, or the starter. We test all three first so you're not paying for a part you don't need, and you get an exact written estimate before any work begins.
My battery is new but the car still dies. Why?
Often the alternator isn't charging the new battery. A new battery won't fix an alternator problem, we test the charging output to find the real cause.
Can you test my battery and charging system?
Yes, call or stop by and we'll check your battery and charging system and tell you straight whether it's the battery, the alternator, or something else.
Engine & Cooling
What should I do if my check engine light comes on?
Don't ignore your check engine light. While it could be something simple like a loose gas cap, it could also indicate serious engine problems. Have it diagnosed as soon as possible. Our diagnostic equipment can read the specific code to determine the exact cause and prevent potential damage.
How much does engine diagnostic cost?
Our engine diagnostic includes a full computer scan, error code analysis, and a detailed report of what we find. We give you the price up front, and the diagnostic fee is often applied toward the repair if you go ahead with it.
Can I drive with the check engine light on?
If the check engine light is solid, you can usually drive to a repair shop, but avoid extended trips. If the light is flashing, this indicates a serious problem like misfires that could cause catalytic converter damage, pull over safely and have the vehicle towed.
How often should I get a tune-up?
Modern vehicles generally need tune-ups every 30,000-100,000 miles, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. Consult your owner's manual or ask our technicians for guidance specific to your vehicle.
What is included in engine diagnostics?
Our engine diagnostics include computer code reading, visual inspection of engine components, compression testing, fuel pressure testing, and any additional tests needed to identify the root cause of the problem.
AC & Heating
Why is my car AC not blowing cold air?
Common causes include low refrigerant, a faulty compressor, clogged condenser, or electrical issues. Our technicians can diagnose the exact cause and provide an estimate for repair. We offer AC recharge, leak repair, and component replacement.
How much does AC repair cost?
It depends on the refrigerant your vehicle uses and whether it's a simple recharge or there's a leak or failed component behind it. We find the real cause first and give you a detailed written estimate before starting any work.
How often should I have my AC serviced?
We recommend having your AC system checked annually, typically before the hot summer months arrive. Regular maintenance can prevent costly repairs and ensure optimal performance.
Why does my car AC smell bad?
Bad odors from your AC usually indicate mold or bacteria growth in the evaporator or cabin air filter. Our AC service includes cleaning the system, replacing the cabin air filter, and eliminating the odor source.
Why isn't my heater working?
Heating problems can be caused by low coolant, a faulty thermostat, blocked heater core, or issues with the blend door actuator. Our technicians can diagnose and repair heating system issues.
Maintenance
How often should I change my oil?
For most modern vehicles using synthetic oil, we recommend changes every 5,000-7,500 miles. However, this can vary based on your vehicle, driving conditions, and manufacturer recommendations. Conventional oil typically requires more frequent changes, around every 3,000 miles.
How much does an oil change cost?
It depends on your vehicle, the oil type it takes (conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic), and its capacity. Every oil change includes a multi-point inspection at no extra charge, and you get the price up front.
Where can I get a quick oil change near me?
We offer fast, professional oil change services at our North Canton location serving all of Stark County. No appointment needed for most oil changes. We're conveniently located and provide quick, reliable service to get you back on the road.
What's included in your multi-point inspection?
Our comprehensive inspection includes checking all fluid levels and conditions, inspecting belts and hoses, testing the battery, examining brakes, inspecting suspension components, checking tire condition and pressure, and testing lights and wipers.
Can I switch from conventional to synthetic oil?
Yes, you can switch to synthetic oil at any time. Many drivers make the switch to benefit from better engine protection, improved fuel economy, and extended oil change intervals. We can recommend the best option for your vehicle.
Still not sure? Call Nick, he'll tell you straight.
